How to Create a Link to Receive Guest Photos in Google Drive

✦ Quick Summary (TL;DR) ✦

“Connect Google Drive to AlbumDrive, then copy your event's guest link. Guests choose and upload photos in their browser without installing an app or creating an account.”

To receive guest photos in Google Drive through a shared link, you can use AlbumDrive as the upload page. You create the event and connect your Drive; guests open the link, choose their photos and upload them in their browser. They do not need an app or an account.

The important part is sending the event's guest link, rather than your management page or just any Drive folder URL. Here is how to find the right link, share it and check that guests can contribute.

A guest upload link is not the same as a Drive folder link

These links serve different purposes:

  • AlbumDrive guest link: opens the event and lets guests start an upload when uploads are available. Guests can also access the gallery from that page if your event settings allow it.
  • Google Drive folder link: follows the folder's sharing permissions. Viewer access does not turn a folder into a photo upload inbox.
  • Event management link: is for managing the event, not for your guest invitation.

The Google Drive folder-sharing guide distinguishes viewers from editors: editors can add, change and delete files. Handing out folder editing permissions is therefore not equivalent to offering guests a dedicated upload page.

Create the event and copy the correct link

  1. Sign in as the host with Google. Create the event and set its name, start date and time. The upload window starts at that configured time, not when you send the invitation.
  2. Connect Google Drive. Check that you have selected the intended account and have storage available. Review gallery visibility separately.
  3. Open the event details. Find “Share your album” or “Event Link,” depending on the view. Use the copy control beside the displayed address.
  4. Send the link or export its QR code. The sharing card offers PNG and SVG downloads. The QR opens the same event access; it does not create another folder.

The shared address uses AlbumDrive's /go/ path followed by the event identifier. Use that as a way to recognize it, not as a URL to assemble yourself. Copy the full address from your event instead of sending the address bar URL from your host session.

Test access first, then test an upload

Open the link on another phone or in a browser session without your host account. Reaching the event page confirms access, but does not prove that the upload window is open.

Once the configured upload period has started, work through this checklist:

  • The link opens the correct event without asking guests to create an account.
  • A guest can select a test photo and confirm the upload.
  • The host can see the received upload; approval and hidden-gallery settings are checked separately.
  • The file appears in the event folder in the connected Google Drive.

Your test photo uses album capacity. Do not casually change the event start just to test: check how that would affect the upload period you need. Opening the link or scanning the QR does not automatically collect photos from a phone. Guests choose what to contribute.

A message you can send to guests

Replace EVENT_LINK with your copied link and include the actual deadline in your invitation:

We'd love to collect your photos from the event! Open EVENT_LINK, choose the photos you'd like to share and upload them. No app or account needed. Please upload by the deadline in your invitation.

For a work event, also explain what people may photograph and how the images will be used. The corporate event photo checklist covers those decisions.

The link opens, but guests cannot upload: what to check

  • Destination: did you share the guest link, or a folder that only allows viewing?
  • Timing: has the configured start arrived, and is the upload period still open?
  • Drive: is the connection active, with storage available?
  • Capacity and file: is there room in the album, and does the selected file meet the displayed limits?

If the problem continues, note the error message, browser and time of the attempt before contacting support. These checks narrow down the issue; changing the link will not fix every upload failure.

Frequently asked questions

Who needs a Google account?

The host signs in and connects Google Drive. Guests upload in their browser without creating an AlbumDrive account or signing in to Google for that upload.

Is it free? Can guests upload videos?

Free includes up to 30 photos over 3 days. Plus and Premium offer 30 days of uploads and support videos when the host enables them, up to 30 seconds and 100 MB each. Projection and prior approval require Premium. Album limits and available Drive storage still apply.

Can everyone view the photos? What happens when uploads close?

Gallery visibility depends on event settings. Drive folder permissions are separate: hiding the gallery does not revoke Drive links you have shared. Files saved in Drive are not deleted simply because the upload window ends; this does not guarantee permanent gallery availability.
